Mineral Extraction and the Historic Environment

The new English Heritage position statement on minerals extraction – Mineral Extraction and the Historic Environment (EH product code51396) has been released.
The policy statement addresses the following:
the economic context and historic significance of mining & quarrying sites and landscapes
the impact on the historic environment that can be caused by mineral extraction, together with advice on appropriate mitigation measures and on realising the benefits to the understanding of the historic environment that may be gained through mineral working
the need for and supply of natural stone and other mineral required to conserve the historic environment and maintain local distinctiveness
